Had the pleasure a while back of meeting Nicky Deasy for an editorial photoshoot with The Business Post. Ms. Deasy is co-founder and managing partner at The Yield Lad, based in Galway City. Who or what is the Yield lad you might ask, well they are an agtech venture capital fund who help start-ups with an equity investment which helps companies grow their potential in their respective agricultural industry sectors.
The Yield Lab Europe’s accelerator invests €100,000 into early stage agri-food technology companies that revolutionize agriculture and food systems to sustainably feed the world. In addition to providing capital, The Yield Lab Europe provides access to individualized mentoring from industry experts, access to the premiere agri-food tech accelerator in Ireland, and access to the Yield Lab global network of experts, corporates and investors all around the world to enable companies to successfully scale and commercialise internationally. The Yield Lab Europe currently has seven companies in its portfolio, of whom four are Irish.
The location of the shoot was their boardroom which luckily for me had sufficient available light with south facing windows overlooking Galway Harbour. So I kept it quite simple and decided to shoot everything with prime lenses a 35mm and 50mm minimising any background distractions within the room. The camera used was a Nikon D850. I also added a hint of fill flash -2.7 stops under the available light just for a little contrast via a Godox AD200 through a Lastolite 60x60 soft-box.
Overall I was happy enough with the shoot a felt a squeezed enough out of the location factoring in the environment I had to work with.
